My five favourite quotes

Anyone who knows me knows that I love quotes.

I love how they can communicate something profound in only a few words.

Whenever I see a quote that I like I must write it down. I have thousands of quotes in my collection now, but some stand out – here are my five all-time favourites.

"You have to trust in something -- your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

Steve Jobs

I don’t use Apple products, but I love Steve Jobs.

I totally get what he is saying in this quote as it’s something I follow every day in my life – my gut.

I am a very spiritual person and I put a lot of trust in my ability to sense what the universe is telling me.

Not every situation needs this approach but when the “right” choice is unclear (as it often is) I have no hesitation in trusting my gut.

“What you seek is seeking you”

This quote gives me hope and the energy to carry on.

When I am working hard but not seeing a lot of reward I read this quote.

It eases my mind because I know things are working for me behind the scenes and what I need will arrive at the perfect time.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Wayne Gretzky

I know next to nothing about ice hockey, but this is an amazing quote.

If you don’t try, you won’t succeed – that’s a fact.

Moving to London was very challenging for me, especially in the beginning. But I knew that I had to do it if I was going to achieve my goals of becoming fluent in English and studying at UCL, my dream university.

Take a shot and see what happens, it’s exciting.

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”

Henry Ford

This quote is all about having a positive mindset, something that I try to cultivate every day.

We all know someone who seems to attract bad luck wherever they go. Sometimes they are genuinely unlucky. But often these people are so pessimistic and the world gives them what they are focusing on.

I have known people who are so negative that they give up at the slightest hurdle. For someone with a positive attitude, these hurdles make the rewards even sweeter. They are a chance for us to prove ourselves.

Don’t make the mistake of failing before you even begin. Watch your thoughts and stay positive.

“Happiness is not having what you want but wanting what you have.”

Hyman Schachtel

Daily gratitude is something that keeps me grounded.

I am constantly reminding myself how lucky I am to be healthy, living in my favourite city, doing work that I love, eating delicious food…I could go on!

My point (and the point of the quote) is we shouldn’t get hung up on what someone else might have and focus more on being grateful for what we have already.

You will be amazed at how many things there are when you start looking.

Quotes have a special place in my heart and I will continue to collect them. What is your favourite quote and why? I would love to know.
